I just came from Indian Summer. It was too commercialized for me. I don't have a problem with anyone doing "Indian Art". But I stumble and fight with the fact that some people use that gift as a way to sometimes make a lot of money. It must have been hard for the first Native Americans to come to a place in their lives where they had to "sell" their crafts in order to feed their families. I too think it all depends on where your heart is at the time of your creation and in what manner you present that creation that truly makes it "Indian Art" or "authentic art".","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"14044193","dateCreated":"1252433850","smartDate":"Sep 8, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"This_Guy","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/This_Guy","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1252435340\/This_Guy-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/fundamentalsartfall2009.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/14044193"},"dateDigested":1532092785,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Art at the crossroads","description":"American Indian: "a member of any of the aboriginal peoples of the western hemisphere"(Merriam Webster online Dictionary) This is how i see it, Its only American Indian Art if it was created by people with aboriginal background. If a non-white person wanted to sell art or call there art American Indian art it varies on them two levels. If it was created by an American Indian of the aboriginal background that makes the American Indian art authentic. "Authentic Indian art" is art created by a person with an aboriginal background, by my understanding. This is my opinion and is based on the information I found.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"14042291","dateCreated":"1252430060","smartDate":"Sep 8, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"waqnahwew","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/waqnahwew","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1233252419\/waqnahwew-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/fundamentalsartfall2009.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/14042291"},"dateDigested":1532092785,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Crossroads of art","description":"from concon4k Crossroads of art

\nI myself have caught myself thinking about how could that person be selling "indian" art, when he or she appears to be white. After reading the article it is true that times have changes and cultures are mixed. When ever I talk to someone they bring up there heritage and somewhere down the line they state they are native american. So is there art any less "indian" art then mine would be? I guess not. Art comes from feeling and emotion so it comes from one self. And if you feel "indian" then I guess it is.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"14022331","dateCreated":"1252372713","smartDate":"Sep 7, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"elliedox","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/elliedox","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1251507595\/elliedox-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/fundamentalsartfall2009.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/14022331"},"dateDigested":1532092785,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"art at the crossroads.....","description":"The article is wondering how I feel about Non-Native Americans producing Native American art? You know I never really thought about it or really wondering on how it makes me feel. But now that the question a rises I don't think its right because it seems like "Fake art." When anyone buys a piece of art their looking for "Authenticity" being from whatever race or backround. I don't think it horribly wrong that they would do it, as long as their researching what they are working on, and back it up and explains what it means correctly when ask about it. But as for myself I would have to say "NO" I would not buy art from that person.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"14042187","body":"Thanks for your post Ellie.
