Native american art to me is whatever an native makes, jewelry to pots or painting, a variety of things, to raising their kids teaching them how to cook and so forth. What I thinkis a Native artist is when an artist brings out his or her inner self. They were born with the gift, what's in their head , heart, soul and maybe their dreams. I think you don't have to be an Indian to be a atists but your question is what is an Native American Artists?, This changes the answer, in my head only a Native can be a Native Artist. Only they can see whatever it is that they see. Maybe in their dreams or what they see in a sweatlodge, only a Native can do this. When somebody makes something it comes from their heart, mind and soul. I don't think a non-native person can see or do what a Native artists can do. I'm native but I cannot draw for nothing. Theirs a whole bunch of other art I can do.

Native American art means to me that it was done BY a Native American just beacause it seems more meaningful. Like maybe you can as a Native, understand what that person was thinking of when they were creating or maybe you can relate it to a story your grandparents told you long ago. When I look at a Non-Native American art drawings of a Native American it just doesn't seem right like it's a fake or copy and it may not be, but it just feels that way. That now I feel on that matter.
what does it mean to me about being a Native American Artist, I don't know because I'm far from being an artist I think. But my beadwork makes me actual surprised that I did that and that idea came out of my head.

To me, native american art is any kind of art made by a native american. it doesn't have to be the staple of silverworks, leather craft and wood working. anyone can do that. I'm native american and i draw anime stuff, but that doesn't make me japanese. Yet people say, "but aren't you native?". Art can be devised into topics but it's not restricted to them.

As I believe, when a person is from Italy, makes all types of art, such as paintings, sculptors, drawings, and poems, he/she is regarded as a Italian artist. I believe, no matter what type of art form an Native American Artist performs, he/she should be regarded as Native American or just American Artist.

I chose a Native American artist by the name of L. David Eveningthunder. He has this painting of Traditional dancer doing the sneak-up. The Tradional dancer was holding an American flag and he said the colors of the regalia are a commerative to the Veitnam era, the shadows in the background are the ones who are with the warrior in spirit and in memory. He also dedicated this painting to the memory of Native American Veterans who served in Veitnam. He is a Native American artist in my eyes because, he is dedicating his painting to the ones that risked their lives for us and in the same painting showing his tradional ways. http://www.artnatam.com/evnthun/index.html

Native American Art- To me is someting special that could be judge in many ways. When I look at a Native American Art it is powerful it has meaning. Anything ranging from a drawing of an Indian dancer to a purse or maybe even a pair of barrettes that are beaded that catch even the small eyes of a little girl. She even knows they are special. Being proud of the Native American culture and putting in your art work makes it Native American Art.
Native American Artist- is anyone who puts there heart and soul into whatever he or she is doing, that being beading, dancing, drumming ect.. That person is a Native American Artist.

Defining any kind of art is very hard, but Native Art to me is something created by an indigenous person about/of our indigenous ways or beliefs. Its nice to see that other non-native people take an interest in native are but I believe that what they create isn't truly authentic.

Native American art to me is a way of life for native people because it is displayed in many ways not just through paintings and art forms. Many traditions are passed down through the generations and will continue to be passed down through stories and hands on which I think is very interesting. I believe its keeping the old and young connected. To be a Native American artist I believe is something entirely different because it's something that can be done by any one of any race. Often times it depicts Native American people and their way of life.

It does not necessarily mean that it has to be done by an Native American, but it should definitely have a Native American influence. It does not matter whether it was done by an Native American or someone of another race.
