I had went to the Milwaukee Art Museum in september sometime. It really surprised me, I didn't think that I could spend more then 30 mintues in the museum because I didn't think it would of catch my attention but my boyfriend and I were there for more then 3 hours! We took pictures of almost everything. We even got lost for a little bit but then we did eventually find our way out. I was really excited that I actually knew some of the artist that had artwork in there. My favorite part of all the artwork there was a section of different kinds of furniture, there was furniture there that was retro and antique and then there was some furniture that was modern. I really liked it, it made me feel like I was in the past, I just wish I could actually of bought it from them haha. Some more artwork that I really liked, was the glass sculptures, it was just so beautiful and delicate. Then there was some artwork that I really wished I could understand what it meant, like there was this big stack of poster size paper in the middle of one room and it said "Veterans Day Sale" in small print in the middle of the paper, I really wish the artist was there to tell me was it meant. I really enjoyed going there, I really want to go back for the Andy Warhol exhibitation, its call the "last decade" its at the museum until January 3th 2010.

Sorry this is so late, but I did attend Indian Summer in September. It was overall pretty fun. My boyfriend and I usually attend Indian Summer because of the powwow and the social dance part, and of course the shopping, but this year we looked around at everything. We also got a brand new camera and try to take alot of pictures. We watched the people that climbed the pole and looked at all the art work. I wanted to buy paintings and stuff, but I didn't because I would of had to carry it all around with me and through the crowds haha. The artwork that caught my attention was painting and photographs of powwow dancers, and native americans in their traditional clothing. Also beaded things catch my attention alot, some of the beaded artwork is out of this world! And I wish I could bead like them haha. But maybe next year I will actually buy some artwork if it's not to crowded. :)

I went to indian summer this weekend! the art there at the art circle was amazing!!! My favorite pieces were the heated copper sculptures, i wanted to take pictures but was afraid to offend the artist so i didn't. I saw ben at the show too. After we checked out the art circle, we went to the gathering place to watch a dance by some south american natives to honor the sun/rain god. the strung ropes to their feet and jumped off a 60 foot pole!!!!! it was amazing! after that my dad and i went to watch my older brother dance in the powwow. i dont remember if he competed or not, but he's a chicken dancer on the brink of fame. I think Rooster was there to. we didn't stay vaery long, after that we went and saw the Indginous band, Brule. they were amazing!!!! I wanted to buy their cd, but i spent all the money on my visa... but it was still a cool thing to go to this weekend! I had fun!!!

I attended art street last weekend for the first time and found it very interesting. I enjoyed talking with some of the artists and getting information on there background and what type of time and effort goes into their work. I also got many business cards and even got an invitation to a art show in October. I liked the native american arts they had there. The pow-wow was interesting to watch because of all the people who were interested in seeing the different dances. The crowd was so big it took me awhile to get out of it to enjoy the rest of art street. One stop I found interesting was a basket weaving display by Susan Preuss because it made me see that weaving isn't just baskets but you can make backpacks and bags to carry your things in. Another display that caught my eye was Melvin McGee where I got the invitation to the art show because the artist made me aware that there is a art association in northeast wisconsin which I found interesting. He explained how the artist are picked and how they hold art shows in either their homes or special locations and how the shows are somewhat funded by the association. I found that interesting because it is allowing the artist to get their art out there. Another person I got to watch was Jeff Pockat who plays the Gaelic harp and it made me see how music can be art as well.I was impressed by the fine art of Jeffrey Leurquin. Deer Woods Pottery done by Cathy Barnowsky was also one that caught my eye because of the designs on her pottery.

  • Well done Sheila. Would you please share the name of the Association with the group?

I went to art street on Sunday, the Sunday was really nice. Saturday, rained all day. I met a lot of people at art street. I also interviewed everyone I did a sketch from. One guy would not let me sketch his inlaid wood projects, so I moved on. I did have a successfully day at art street.

Thank You,

Shawano County Fair (4H Organization art fair) (Sept. 5 2009)
All the years that I went to the county fair I never once imaged I would be going to the art gallery. The art was created by many people from young teens to older teens. I found a lot of the art very fascinating. There were many different types of art such as 3D art, pop, realism, abstract, string, wood , baking, just a wide array of colors too and different aspects of how one thing can be transformed into a work of art with the use of another thing. My overall experience was great and I am totally attending this next year.

I really enjoy L. David Eveningthunders artwork to me this is an artist that pays a lot of attention to his surroundings and the people that are or were in his life. His artwork is based on contemporary Native American Dancers. In his biography he says he is paying tribute for those who are keeping the tradition alive. In every piece of artwork there is a meaning or significance behind it and why he did that piece of artwork. I like the fact that he stuck to his culture and traditions. You can tell that his culture has had a big influence on him. In one of his paintings called Traditional sneak-up and he dedicated this piece of artwork to the Native American Veterans of the Vietnam War. In the background he has shadows of traditional dancers they symbolize the ones that have falling during the Vietnam War. This painting has a lot of meaning to me also my father has served in the Vietnam War. So when I look at this painting it makes me think of my father. In most of L.David Eveningthunder artwork he has dedicated it to someone. So when I look at the art I know it comes from his heart and he isn’t just doing the art for himself. But also for someone that holds a place in his heart. For him to do artwork for other people and dedicate it to them is a really special thing. I like the fact that L.David Eveningthunder makes his artwork from all different Native American Tribes, he don’t just try to focus on one Tribe. Most of his artwork is very colorful that is one of the reasons that I was drawn to it. He does have some black and white artwork. But when he does the paintings in color it seems to bring them to life, more like portraits then paintings. L. David Eveningthunder has a piece of artwork done in chalk of a male fancy dancer. That piece of artwork really got my attention. David Eveningthunder has so much detail on the fancy dancers’ regalia. I like the fact when L. David Evening Thunder did his artwork he didn’t just base his artwork on men. He included women and children in his artwork also. In one of his painting he has a mother and her child along with a male fancy dancer. He says “when we pass on our heritage and culture to our children in today's Pow Wows, it is a blessing and honoring to both the spirits and our children, who will in turn pass it on to their children.” That is why we say, "When We Dance, the Spirits Dance." In my eyes this is a very true saying. When he can make great artwork and also come have a meaning why or what the artwork is about is a very special talent.L. David Eveningthunder had come along way; he was put in an orphanage and taken away from his people as a young child. Through all this he had become a very talented artist. Even though he has passed away his artwork will always be cherished.
